Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus is a neurological condition characterized by the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain’s ventricles, causing them to enlarge without significantly increasing pressure. It commonly affects older adults and presents with a classic triad of symptoms: gait disturbance, urinary incontinence, and cognitive decline (memory and thinking problems).

Diagnosis involves clinical evaluation and imaging such as MRI or CT scans. Treatment typically includes surgical placement of a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt to drain excess fluid, which can significantly improve symptoms if done timely.
